Q. What is the general skill level of students?

A. Our students come from a variety of cooking backgrounds, from little or no experience to (culinary school graduates?). We structure our classes to meet the needs of every student, regardless of skill level or experience.

Q. I am a complete beginner in the kitchen. Will I be comfortable taking a class at Kitchen on Fire?

A. Yes! Our goal is to make cooking fun and approachable for everybody - from first timers in the kitchen to seasoned home cooks, Kitchen on Fire has something for everybody.

Q. Is there a minimum age requirement for students?

A. There is absolutely no minimum age requirements for students. We have had students as young as 5 attend class with parents, and as young as 99. We also have high school age minors come to class with parent release form if the parents are not attending.(form available via email).

Q. Does Kitchen on Fire sell gift certificates?

A. Yes! You can purchase Kitchen on Fire gift certificates in any denominations on our website (Gift Shop), over the phone, or in person.

Q. How do I redeem a gift certificate?

A. Please enroll via email at gift@kitchenonfire.com, with the name and the date of the class along with the certificate number.

Q. I have to miss a class I registered for. Can I cancel my registration and get a refund?

A. Cancellations or changes must be made no later than 96 hours before class starts. Cancellations will be honored with a complete refund, or the option of a store credit good towards Kitchen on Fire classes, gift certificates and merchandise. If you have to cancel at the last minute, you can always give up your spot to a family member or friend. Just have them check-in to class under your name and let one of the chefs know.

Q. Can I book a private party or event at Kitchen on Fire?

A. Yes! Go to our private event page or contact us at events@kitchenonfire.com

Q. Does Kitchen on Fire offer catering services?

A. No, although we will be happy to recommend other catering services in the area.

Q. Can I hire Kitchen on Fire to host an event in my home?

A. Yes! Kitchen on Fire will throw a cooking party from the comfort of your home.

Q. What is the policy on bringing alcoholic beverages to Kitchen on Fire classes/events?

A. We open-heartedly invite class and event participants to bring any beverages they would like to enjoy during their stay at Kitchen on Fire for personal consumption. We cannot sell or distribute alcohol and we uphold ABC regulations. No minor can drink and we cannot have intoxicated people attending a class.

Q. What is the maximum/minimum size of a class at Kitchen on Fire?

A. Classes range from as large as 20 to as small as 6, with an average class size of 16 for our hands on classes. Cooking demonstrations can have up to 35 students in attendance. Private events can host up to 35 seated and up to 40 for cocktail style event.

Q. What should I wear to a Kitchen on Fire class/event?

A. Closed toe shoes and a smile!

Q. How do I get to Kitchen on Fire?

A. We are located at 1509 Shattuck Ave., near the corner of Vine St., directly above the Epicurious Garden.

Q. Should I eat before class?

A. There is no need to. A light snack is always provided at the beginning of class, followed by a great meal cooked by you.

Q. Do I need to bring anything?

A. Bring your apron if you'd like and just make sure to bring your appetite.

Q. Where should I park my car?

A. Street parking is free after 7:00 PM and all day Sunday. Metered parking on Shattuck and the streets to the East of Kitchen on Fire (towards the hills) is good for up to 2 hours. There is also free parking in the neighborhood to the West (away from the hills), some of which is all day and some of which is timed. Just be sure to read the signs wherever you parking.
